Book a hazard perception test

If you are a learner driver, you must pass a hazard perception test before you can take the practical driving assessment to get your driver’s licence.
Last updated:

You can take the hazard perception test 6 months after getting your learner’s permit.

You must be at least:

  • 16 years and 6 months to take the test for a car or motorcycle licence
  • 15 years and 6 months to take the test for a moped licence.

The test features video clips of different traffic situations and is used to measure your ability to judge road hazards and make safe driving decisions.

You can sit the hazard perception test at any Department of Transport (DoT) Driver and Vehicle Services centre or regional agent.

All tests must commence before 3.45 pm.

You do not need to make a booking if you sit the test at any metropolitan DoT centre.

If you are sitting the test at a regional agent you must make a booking.

Fees apply when you sit the test the first time and each time you re-sit the test.

You can practice online before sitting the test.
