The Minister for Energy invites public comment on a package of changes to the Electricity Networks Access Code 2004 (the Access Code) developed by the Energy Transformation Taskforce to support the delivery of the Energy Transformation Strategy and includes amendments relating to each of its three work streams:

  • Distributed Energy Resources;
  • Whole of System Planning; and
  • Foundation Regulatory Frameworks.

These changes seek to increase opportunities for new technologies, maximise network utilisation and streamline regulatory processes. Other amendments are also proposed to provide regulatory certainty and streamline access arrangement processes for Western Power and the Economic Regulation Authority.

These changes build on the recommendations from the recently released Distributed Energy Resources Roadmap and include measures to provide more opportunities for third parties to deliver innovative non-network solutions to Western Power as an alternative to traditional network investment where it is efficient.

Written submissions from interested stakeholders are invited and must be submitted to Energy Policy WA by 5pm (WST) on 26 June 2020. Electronic submissions are preferred and should be emailed to energytransformation@energy.wa.gov.au.

Further information on the proposed changes is available here.
