Report unlicensed or unregistered plumber
A tradesperson's licence authorises the holder to:
- carry out water supply and sanitary and/or drainage plumbing; and
supervise the carrying out of such work by an apprentice, under the general direction and control of the holder of a plumbing contractor's licence.

Before you apply
1. You'll need
Plumbing Tradesperson apprenticeship
- A copy of your Trade Certificate;
- AND A copy of your Certificate III in Plumbing or Drainage;
- AND A letter of confirmation or a copy of the Record of Results.
2. Additional documents
You'll also need:
- 100 points of identification.
- An acceptable photograph for your licence card (clear passport style image of head and shoulders against a white background, no hats or sunglasses).
- A police check (dated within the past 3 months, showing the same name as your identification).
- Visa/Mastercard for fee payment.
3. Complete application form
Print or digitally complete the relevant application form.

After your application has been submitted
Licence applications typically take 4-6 weeks to process. We’ll contact you if we need any additional information, and you’ll receive an email once your licence has been finalised.

How to use the online licence search
Search by number: You can check if a licence number is still valid. Type the number into the field on the opening screen.
Search by type of licence: You can look for licensed people in your neighbourhood. Click on ‘Type’. Start typing in the licence type in the box eg. debt collector. Then type in either a name or location.
Rainwater storage restricted plumbing permit

As of 10 February 2026, no further applications for the restricted plumbing permit – Rainwater storage will be considered.
