This department was given a new name on 1 July 2025. It was previously the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

About us

We are a diverse agency that contributes to Western Australia being seen as the best place to live in Australia. Our staff work in the areas of:

  • creative industries
  • sport and recreation industries
  • culturally and linguistically diverse communities, groups and organisations
  • major infrastructure projects for arts, culture, sporting and recreation
  • tourism.

We also support the people of Western Australia, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to connect to their culture and history through Aboriginal History Western Australia and the State Records Office.

Our work involves exciting projects like the development of the new Aboriginal Cultural Centre and delivering major international sporting events.

We focus on building a workforce of 'Good Humans.' We strive to attract and retain exceptional people, providing them with the support and resources they need to reach their full potential. This approach helps us as an organisation and the people we serve, contributing to our vision to see Western Australia celebrated as the best place to live in Australia.

Another interesting thing about us is that we are splitting into 2 departments on 1 July 2025 – we are one of 9 government departments changing. Trainees that join us will be fully supported and we will explain more and answer any questions you have after you apply.
