The investigations aimed to understand the potential impacts of future groundwater use on cultural and ecological water requirements and help formulate new groundwater management strategies for a Fitzroy water allocation plan.
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation conducted the investigations under the State Government’s Water for Food program and the State Groundwater Investigation Program.
The Australian Government also funded groundwater investigations in the Fitzroy Valley as part of the Northern Australia Water Resource Assessment project. This work was carried out in partnership with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
