Embedded networks and On-site Power Supply (OPS) arrangements to be regulated under the Alternative Electricity Services (AES) registration framework.
  • Following consultation, the Cook Government has announced the decision to extend protections to electricity customers in embedded networks or under OPS arrangements.
  • Consultation on draft Regulations to prescribe these services is now open.
  • Further information on the Registration Fees and the AES Code of Practice will be provided in the first half of 2026.

Previously, we used the term Behind the Meter Services to describe solar Power Purchase Agreements and other similar services.

This term has now been changed to On-site Power Supply (OPS) Arrangements to better reflect the nature of these services. Click here to read more about on-site power supply arrangements.

Consultation on the regulation of OPS arrangements closed on 19 April 2024. Energy Policy WA received five submissions, with one identified as confidential.

This consultation feedback has informed the Cook Government’s decision to regulate the OPS Arrangements under the AES registration framework. 

Further consultation on the AES draft Prescribing Regulations is now open, and further information on the AES Registration Fees and Code of Practice is expected to be provided in 2026.
