What You Need to Know
Anyone who believes they have been discriminated against or harassed can lodge a complaint with the Equal Opportunity Commission. If you are unsure about whether the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) covers your complaint, you can speak to us by calling 08 9216 3900 between the hours of 9am and 4pm on weekdays.
The responsibility of providing evidence lies with the person making the complaint.
Complaints must be submitted in writing, but you are not required to use English. You may write your complaint in the language you are most comfortable using, and we will organise the translation.
The incident or incidents referred to in the complaint must have occurred within 12 months before the date the complaint is submitted.
In some circumstances, the Commissioner may determine that there is good reason to include incidents that occurred more than 12 months prior.
Note: The complaint must be submitted by the person who experienced the discrimination or harassment. Exceptions apply if the person is a child and the complaint is submitted by a parent or guardian, or if the person has a disability that prevents them from submitting the complaint themselves.
