Fauna Investment Plan development

Work is underway to inform a fauna investment plan for the Pilbara Environmental Offsets Fund
Last updated:

At this stage, there are five Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) under the Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 for which offsets are required to be paid into the Pilbara Environmental Offsets Fund.

This includes Northern Quoll (Dasyurus hallucatus) Greater Bilby (Macrotis lagotis), Pilbara Leaf Nosed Bat (Rhinonicteris aurantius) Ghost Bat (Macroderma gigas) and Pilbara Olive Python (Liasis olivaceus).

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is summarising the current knowledge gaps, research, and management priorities for these species in the Pilbara to inform a fauna investment plan for the Pilbara Environmental Offsets Fund. The work will be used to help define priorities for research and management investment and to guide leveraging with other regional programs. The final reports are due later this year and will be published on the PEOF website.
