Who we are
The Department of Treasury and Finance supports the Western Australian Government to achieve its priorities and whole‑of‑government targets.
As the principal economic and financial adviser, the department provides leadership, strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of public services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australians.
The work of the department is integral to government decision making about where and how public funds are invested to ensure services are delivered in a financially sustainable way.
The department also leads procurement, manages state revenue, and administers grants and subsidies that support the Western Australian community.
About the program
The Department of Treasury and Finance Graduate Program is an 18 month structured development pathway designed to launch your career in a high‑performing central agency.
The program includes 3 rotations of 6 months, providing exposure to a range of teams and functions across the department. Graduates work on high‑impact projects that shape Western Australia’s economic, social and environmental outcomes, including budget analysis, economic reform, procurement strategy, managing state revenue and long‑term sustainability initiatives.
The program applies your academic learning, accelerates skill development and provides meaningful work from day one, supported by structured learning and development opportunities.
Subject to performance, there is the possibility of extension or permanency after 12 months.
What you will work on
Graduates work on complex and high‑profile projects that contribute directly to government priorities. Depending on your rotations, you may gain experience across areas such as:
- economic and financial analysis
- budget and policy development
- procurement and commercial strategy
- revenue administration and compliance
- data analysis and modelling
- project and program delivery.
By the end of the program, graduates may progress into roles such as accounting analyst, budget analyst, data scientist, economic analyst, financial analyst, investigations officer, policy officer, project officer or revenue officer.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the Graduate Program, you must:
- have completed a tertiary qualification, minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent, between December 2024 and December 2026
- demonstrate strong academic achievement, with a weighted average mark of 70% or above at the time of application
- be an Australian Citizen, Australian permanent resident, or a New Zealand Citizen with a Special Category Visa
- be available to commence the program in mid‑January 2027
- be willing to work across the Perth CBD and Osborne Park office locations.
Please note the Graduate Program is based in Perth and relocation assistance is not provided.
