The Graduate Quantity Surveyor Program offers graduates the opportunity to develop specialist skills in estimating and commercial management while contributing to major road and infrastructure projects across the state.
About the program
The Graduate Quantity Surveyor Program is a 2 year structured rotational program designed to provide hands on learning experiences across a range of estimating and commercial specialist areas.
The program supports the development of practical quantity surveying capability while allowing graduates to build experience aligned with their strengths, interests and business needs. Graduates work alongside experienced professionals and gain exposure to real infrastructure projects that support the planning and delivery of the Western Australian road network.
On successful completion of the program, graduates are offered permanent ongoing employment with Main Roads.
What you will work on
As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will gain practical experience across all phases of project estimating and commercial support.
Your experience may include:
- working with estimating database platforms, systems and processes
- assisting with measurement of quantities in accordance with Main Roads’ Standard Method of Measurement
- supporting pricing of estimate items using first principles methodology
- reviewing minor estimates procured through the Estimating and Commercial Services panel contract
- assisting with the development and update of estimating templates and guidance notes.
During the program, you may also gain exposure to:
- assessing contractor rise and fall claims
- setting up and managing contract payment templates
- supporting procurement of minor estimates through the estimating panel contract.
This experience provides a strong foundation in the commercial and financial aspects of infrastructure delivery.
Rotations and development
The program includes a well structured rotation and development plan, providing exposure across relevant business areas and projects.
Graduates are supported through:
- on the job learning with experienced quantity surveyors and commercial specialists
- formal training and professional development opportunities
- ongoing feedback, coaching and performance support
- support from a dedicated graduate co‑ordinator.
You may also have opportunities to work in different regions of Western Australia, gaining valuable experience in metropolitan and regional environments.

Who should apply

- have completed, or will complete, a Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management)
- have an interest in estimating, cost control and commercial management

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible, you must:
- be a recent university graduate within 2 years of completing your degree, or
- be completing your degree by July 2026 for the mid‑year intake, or
- be completing your degree by December 2026 for the 2027 intake
- be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
