Now in its 25th year, the Premier's Science Awards recognises and celebrates the outstanding scientific research and engagement taking place in Western Australia.

In 2026, the Premier's Science Awards will recognise local scientists across ten categories and the People’s Choice Award:

  • Scientist of the Year
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scientist of the Year
  • Mid-Career Scientist of the Year
  • Early Career Scientist of the Year
  • Student Scientist of the Year
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM Student of the Year
  • Government Science Project of the Year
  • STEM Educator of the Year (Schools)
  • STEM Educator of the Year (Tertiary)
  • Science Engagement Initiative of the Year

Scientist of the Year

A world class scientist who, over the past 10 years, has demonstrated excellence in a field of science, scientific research or technological advancement.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scientist of the Year

A scientist who has demonstrated excellence in a field of science, scientific research or technological advancement.

Mid-Career Scientist of the Year

An outstanding scientist who completed their highest degree between 5-15 years ago, and has demonstrated excellence in a field of science, scientific research or technological advancement.

Early Career Scientist of the Year

An outstanding scientist who is within the first five years of completing their highest degree and has demonstrated excellence in a field of science, scientific research or technological advancement.

Student Scientist of the Year

An outstanding postgraduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to science at an early stage and shows great promise in reaching the highest levels of excellence.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM Student of the Year

An undergraduate or postgraduate student who has demonstrated excellence in STEM studies.

Government Science Project of the Year

A government science project that has made outstanding contributions in various fields of STEM.

STEM Educator of the Year (Schools)

A teacher or educator who demonstrates excellence in a field of STEM education in schools and who has made outstanding contributions to enhancing student engagement in STEM.

STEM Educator of the Year (Tertiary)

A lecturer or educator who demonstrates excellence in a field of STEM education in a tertiary setting and who has made outstanding contributions to enhancing student engagement in STEM.

Science Engagement Initiative of the Year

An initiative that has made an outstanding contribution to community awareness, interest and/or participation in science in Western Australia.
