About the program
The Department of Health Graduate Development Program is a 12 month structured program designed to support graduates transitioning into the public sector.
The program consists of 3 rotations of 4 months, providing exposure to multiple business areas across the WA Health system, including the Department of Health as the System Manager and Health Service Providers.
Graduates contribute to high‑profile projects, work alongside key stakeholders and participate in a structured learning and development framework designed to build professional capability and foundational leadership skills.
On completion of the program, graduates may be offered extension opportunities and pathways into ongoing roles, subject to performance and workforce requirements.

Program streams
The Graduate Development Program recruits across the following non‑clinical streams:
- public health and health
- finance and business
- data analytics and information management
- information and communications technology.
Placements are aligned to your qualifications, interests and organisational needs.
What you will work on
Graduates work on meaningful projects that support the strategic and operational delivery of the WA public health system. Depending on your stream and rotations, you may gain experience in:
- policy development and health system planning
- data analysis, modelling and reporting
- financial analysis and business improvement
- digital systems, cyber security and information management
- program, project and stakeholder support.

What we are looking for in candidates
The Graduate Development Program is suited to graduates who are motivated, adaptable and interested in contributing to public health outcomes.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible, you must:
- have completed a tertiary qualification with a completion date between January 2025 and December 2026
- hold a minimum undergraduate degree
- have achieved a weighted average mark of at least 65%
- be an Australian Citizen or Australian permanent resident by the end of the calendar year in which you apply
- be available to commence the program in 2027.
Applicants graduating mid‑year 2027 are encouraged to apply for the 2028 program.
