The Graduate Communications Program is designed for graduates who want to build a meaningful career in government communications while working on projects that make a real difference across Western Australia.
About the program
The Graduate Communications Program is a 2 year structured rotational program within the Strategy and Communications Directorate.
You will gain hands on experience across a range of communication functions, helping raise awareness and understanding of Main Roads’ projects, initiatives and services through internal and external communication channels.
Throughout the program, you will build real world skills, professional networks and confidence, supported by a dedicated graduate team and formal learning and development opportunities.
On successful completion of the program, graduates are offered permanent ongoing employment with Main Roads.
What you will do
As a Graduate Communications Officer, you will work as part of a collaborative and supportive team on a wide variety of projects. Your experience may include:
- creating content for social media and digital platforms
- supporting the planning and delivery of communication campaigns
- writing media statements, corporate content and contributing to annual reports
- assisting with stakeholder and community engagement activities
- supporting events and engagement initiatives for road, bridge and path projects across Western Australia.
No 2 days are the same, and you will be encouraged to learn, ask questions and get involved.
Rotations and development
You will follow a well structured rotation plan that provides exposure to different teams and communication functions. This is supported by:
- formal training and professional development
- ongoing feedback and performance support
- access to experienced communications professionals and mentors
- support from a dedicated graduate co‑ordinator.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible, you must:
- be a recent university graduate within 2 years of completing your degree, or
- be completing your degree by July 2026 for the mid‑year intake, or
- be completing your degree by December 2026 for the 2027 intake
- be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
