Catchment nutrient reports focus on the concentrations and loads of nutrients leaving the catchments and entering the receiving environments (generally estuaries). The reports are produced every five years with annual updates where appropriate.
Catchment nutrient reports for 2018 are also available.
Information in the reports
Each nutrient report contains information on all or some of the following (there are slight differences between catchments):
- Compliance with targets - where catchment specific targets exist, compliance with these targets is calculated and presented. Compliance is determined using rigorous statistical analysis to ensure that the risk of incorrect reporting is kept to a minimum.
- Trend - where sufficient data exists, trend analysis is performed to determine if there have been any statistically-significant trends in the data set. Either the Mann Kendall or the Seasonal Kendall test is used as appropriate.
- Status - this has been calculated for some catchments and provides a simple summary of the available data by classifying it into bands.
- Loads - for those sites where sufficient flow and concentration data exists, loads have been calculated to give an indication of the mass of nutrients leaving the catchments and entering the receiving environment. Some catchments also have modelled loads presented.
